Japanese Status of Residence System (visa)

Home > Q&A > Q&A Vol.13

Is there any problem if all directors of a joint stock company in Japan are non-Japanese nationals who do not have long term residency status?

Although the directors may need to come to Japan once during the incorporation process with a tourist visa or other visa to complete the registration procedures, it is possible to incorporate a joint stock company in Japan even if all directors reside outside Japan. However, if no management person of the company is in Japan, it may be difficult to open a bank account or conclude an actual business contract because of questions about "creditworthiness".
