General Information on Business in Japan

Which city do you recommend to establish a base in Japan?

As you well know, Japan’s center of business is Tokyo. In general, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka should follow Tokyo, though depending on your industry. That said, not only Japanese companies but also foreign companies concentrate in Tokyo, which causes severe competition among competitors in the same industry. So, some companies choose local cities other than Tokyo.

If you need a large space for a factory or the like, check local governments such as Chiba Pref. and Gunma Pref. as they are attracting foreign firms. In such a case, you may be able to enjoy benefits such as tax exemption for several years after you enter into the Japanese market and a free office. It is advisable to do enough research as a suitable city varies depending on your planned business.
