Establishment of Japanese Office Location

ホーム > Q&A一覧 > Q&A Vol.05

We are wondering if we should rent an office for our Japanese subsidiary. The location of the office is yet to be determined. Do we need to rent our own office? Or is it okay to just rent part of our business partner's office in Japan?

If you only need to establish a base of operations in Japan, such as a joint stock company or limited liability company, you can, in principle, locate it anywhere. In some cases, the location of the company may be registered as the office of a business partner, the residence where you live, or the hotel where you stay.

However, if, after establishing a base in Japan, a manager from abroad comes to Japan with a status of residence of "Business Manager" or a foreign employee with the status of residence of " Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services," etc., securing an office is required under the Immigration Control Act standards. Therefore, it is practically necessary to rent your own office. In addition, when starting a business, there may be difficulties in terms of trust from new business partners and banks in Japan.

In any case, to avoid wasting funds unnecessarily, you must have a clear business plan for the future before taking action.
